PROJECT: Blight Out is a grant-based initiative and pilot project targeting blighted properties.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducted informal interviews with stakeholders, participated in design charettes with community members, and created and compiled information for visualization documents. Acted as project manager assisting selected artists with site selection, design proposals, budgets and implementation schedule.
About the Project:
The focus neighborhood of this proposal and the work of Advance Memphis falls within the 38126 zip code. This neighborhood has struggled for years with generational poverty, deteriorating infrastructure as Memphis’ population has shifted outwardly and high concentrations of abandoned and blighted spaces.
We would work together alongside community members to identify high-priority blighted properties and host conversations and charettes to encourage residents to think broadly about different approaches to transform these spaces. Through these public events, we will explore various strategies including visual art, performance, and community gardens and collectively develop project ideas that enhance the neighborhood and highlight existing assets in the community.
